Electronic Records Management (ERM) is one of the President’s eGovernment initiatives aimed at making it easier for citizens to receive high-quality service from the federal government, while reducing the cost of delivering those services. ISG provides the expertise and tools agencies need to manage their records in electronic form, identifying and addressing specific areas where agencies need assistance with implementation. The ISG goal is threefold:
1.To integrate eRecords practices with information management policies, processes, and objectives to assure the integrity of eRecords and information.
2.To support interoperability, timely and effective decision making, and improved services to customers.
3. To provide the tools for agencies to access eRecords for as long as required and to transfer permanent eRecords to the National Archives and Records Administration, (NARA), for preservation and future use by government and citizens.
