Decision Support with Google Earth

To evaluate the options and potential for using VG technology within the Forest Service (FS), Fire and Aviation Management (FAM) executed a Google Earth Pilot project in FY 2007 to investigate the capabilities, requirements, costs and benefits of a VG for enhancing tactical intelligence and decision making within the interagency firefighting community.

Ranger District Proof-of-Concept

A Ranger District proof-of-concept (POC) will take place during the 2010 field season as a follow up to the Ranger District Assessment performed by the eGov Field Data Automation – Mobile Computing (FDA-MC) team. This POC will involve deploying proven solutions to enable the workforce to gather and collect data while in the field.

The goal for this project is to create a solution that will enable its Local FS units to focus more on river information and issues, instead of performing tedious paperwork. By implementing the latest technology and automating business processes to reduce paper handling, data increases in accuracy and information becomes more private and secure.
